Overview

The North Shore Community College (NSCC) Board of Trustees seeks confidential nominations and expressions of interest for the College's fifth President. This is a distinctive time for higher education as well as a unique moment in the world. We seek a leader capable and prepared to meet unprecedented challenges in these times of uncertainty, disruption, and unpredictability. The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative, visionary, and transformational leader with high emotional intelligence. Within the new everyday context, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability and desire to lead the College to reimagine and advance a collaboratively created innovative institutional and programmatic student success agenda.

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the College and reports to the Board of Trustees. After announcing her retirement six months earlier, Dr. Patricia A. Gentile retired on July 6, 2020, after leading the College for seven years. Dr. Nate Bryant, Vice President and Chief of Staff at Salem State University, has served as NSCC's President on an interim basis since Dr. Gentile's retirement.

Founded in 1965, North Shore Community College is one of 15 Massachusetts community colleges operating under the direction of the Board of Higher Education and its executive agency, the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. Operating from campuses in Lynn and Danvers and instructional sites at the Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School and at other locations in the North Shore area, the College serves 26 cities and towns along the coastal region from north metropolitan Boston to Cape Ann. The population served by NSCC represents a mix of urban and suburban, a diversity of ethnic and racial groups, white- and blue-collar, middle- and low-income groups, as well as growing numbers of recent immigrants. In the fall 2019 semester, 5,388 credit students and 1,136 noncredit students attended NSCC.

The College currently offers 74 degrees and certificates, including 10 Associate in Arts, 29 Associate in Science, 5 Associate in Applied Science, 29 certificates and one clock-hour certificate. Of the Colleges 74 programs, 38 require some form of industry-based experience such as a field experience, clinical placement, cooperative education or internship. The College recently received a 10-year re-accreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

NSCC has received numerous state, regional and national recognitions such as: ranked as one of the nation's top two-year colleges for adult learners; designated as a Military Friendly® School; earned the 2020 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification; and won the coveted Federal Reserve Challenge Cup this year for the fourth consecutive year.
