Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined in the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, department/school and university service is expected. This position is a full-time, tenure track position.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Philosophy professors teach a variety of introductory core courses per semester (Intro to Philosophy, Logic and Critical Thinking, Contemporary Moral Problems) as well as upper-year undergraduate courses in several areas of the discipline. The teaching load is 4/4. Applicants must be willing to teach in a variety of instructional formats as appropriate (face-to-face, hybrid, online).

Qualifications

Experience Required:

A completed PhD in Philosophy from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution by the beginning of the appointment.

Experience Preferred:

The ability to teach upper division courses in some area of non-Western philosophy (e.g., African/Africana Philosophy, Arabic Philosophy, Asian Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Native American Philosophy) is strongly preferred. The ability to teach courses in other under-served areas of philosophy is also valued, as is experience teaching diverse student populations. Additionally, applicants are asked to provide a statement that speaks to their lived experience, knowledge, skills, or achievements in diversity, equity, and inclusion work within or transferrable to a higher education setting.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Familiarity with use of online learning management systems (for example, D2L). Competence in a European language is desirable for department study tours.
