Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Five years professional experience in a related area. Assessment experience in an institution of higher education preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Leads a comprehensive institutional assessment program to support the university’s mission. Develops and oversees assessment policies and procedures. Coordinates the University’s academic and administrative assessment processes and related activities, supporting continuous evaluation and improvement through consultation with faculty, staff, deans, and administrators. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities

Develops and oversees the academic and administrative assessment documentation policies and procedures. Collaboratively develops, oversees, analyzes, and reports on general education/core curriculum assessment initiatives. Provides direction, leadership, and consultation to faculty, staff, administrators, and others involved in the design, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of assessment-related activities. Develops and implements resources and services designed to promote and sustain a “culture of assessment.” Promotes internal and external communication of assessment results. Coordinates all assessment activities needed for compliance purposes and for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges ( SACSCOC ) accreditation. Provides direction and oversight for the selection and maintenance of assessment and accountability-related software. Supports university-wide continuous improvement initiatives and makes recommendations for improvement through consultation with deans, faculty, staff, and administrators. Collaborates with all University divisions to achieve assessment-related goals. Leads and supervises office personnel, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution; provides performance management feedback as appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Involves communication with university administrators, faculty, students, staff, and governing board and accreditation personnel.
• Expertise and knowledge of best practice in higher education assessment and data analysis.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse members of the university community including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and accreditors.
• Ability to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and prepare and present reports effectively.
• Knowledge of State and Federal postsecondary education accountability initiatives and trends.
• Knowledge of regional, postsecondary accreditation standards, practices, and goals.
• Knowledge of institutional self-assessments/meta-assessments and student learning outcomes assessment principles, methods, and techniques.
• Skill in evaluating operations and procedures, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
• Knowledge and understanding of integrated program planning, development, and administration within a public institution environment.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain assessment processes so that non-specialists understand.
• Leadership and supervisory skills, and the ability to motivate staff productivity and performance.
