Job Description:

The School of Engineering at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Biomedical Engineering within the Department of Electrical and Bioengineering. Candidates in all areas of Biomedical Engineering are encouraged to apply.

Position Description : This position requires an ability to perform teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities. The successful candidate will be required to: (1) develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (lecture and laboratory); (2) supervise MS-level theses and undergraduate projects; (3) pursue scholarly activities (including externally-funded research and publications); (4) engage in academic mentoring; (5) assist in program assessment and execution of the department’s continuous improvement plan; (6) participate in appropriate professional service; and (7) participate in professional activities and organizations. The position is an academic (9-month), tenure-track appointment, and the salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Fairfield University is part of a vibrant biomedical and healthcare-related commercial and research community. It is located in the Connecticut Bioscience corridor which connects to the neighboring MA and NY bioscience ecosystems, and is geographically close to the Yale New Haven Health System, the Burke Neurological Institute and many industries in the pharmaceutical and medical device sector. The School of Engineering at Fairfield University traces its legacy to the Bridgeport Engineering Institute, dating back to 1924. Its rich history is represented today by ABET accredited programs in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering, as well as by its strong connections with the industry in the northeast. The department has research and teaching strengths in biomedical signal processing, biomedical imaging, biomedical instrumentation & biosensors, biomedical devices, biomaterials, and computational biology.

Required Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (attained by August 1, 2021)
  • Effective English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to teach effectively both undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Demonstrated potential to conduct funded research in the relevant field
  • A commitment to innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    While all areas of Biomedical Engineering are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to candidates with research and/or teaching background in the following areas:

  • Tissue Engineering & Biomaterials
  • Prosthetics & Rehabilitation Engineering
  • Clinical Engineering & Medical Devices
  • Computational Biomedical Engineering
  • Medical Imaging
