Job Description:

The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at SUNY Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Physical Geography beginning Fall 2021. The professional obligation is for a ten-month academic year. Expectations include teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.

The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability has seven full-time faculty members and is distinguished by small classes, highly accessible faculty, teamwork, and applied learning opportunities for students. The Department is part of the School of Sciences, which consists of 10 academic departments and 2,400 students majoring in 22 programs. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: teaching in areas such as introductory geography, physical geography with labs/field trips, environmental monitoring with field trips using field equipment, GIS courses, and other courses to meet department needs; mentoring students; student advising; and actively participating in departmental and university life.


Requirements:

Required qualifications: PhD in geography or a closely related discipline (ABD considered; doctorate required at time of first renewal notification); concentration in physical geography; ability to teach courses listed in duties above; and excellent communication skills.

Preferred: evidence of teaching effectiveness; demonstrated ability to teach advanced physical and environmental geography courses in the candidate's area of specialty, remote sensing and/or GIS courses, and/or courses which are supportive of the environmental sustainability program; interest in integrating applied learning into coursework; college-level teaching experience; experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
