Job Description:

The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance at Salve Regina University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor with additional responsibilities as Theatre Program Coordinator beginning Fall 2021.

The successful candidate will teach a 3/4 load with a one course reduction per semester for direction of departmental theatre productions. Courses at this time include Introduction to Theatre, all levels of Acting, Directing Theory and Action, and Script Analysis. Culturally responsive teaching and representation of historically marginalized groups in course content is a must. The ability to develop and teach new courses that investigate race, gender, and/or sexuality in the theatre is highly desirable.

It is expected that the successful candidate will direct two performances per academic year in the historic Stanford White Casino Theatre, one of which can be a musical.

Additional responsibilities as program coordinator include:

  • Assisting the chair of Music, Theatre and Dance in budgeting for the theatre program
  • Assisting the chair in the identification, hiring and evaluation of theatre faculty and guest artists
  • Assessment and revision of the theatre curriculum
  • Assess staffing and potential of the theatre program while identifying pathways for future growth
  • Student advising for theatre majors and minors
  • Working closely with University Conferences and Events to schedule outside groups, as space permits, at the Casino Theatre
  • A vision and plan for the future of the theatre program that integrates the university's Mercy mission

We seek a forward thinking colleague who is committed to helping students become well rounded artists, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens within a supportive and professional environment. The ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across music, theatre and dance is essential. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable history as a dedicated educator, and a record of social consciousness.


MFA in Theatre with a specialization in acting and/or directing and/or devising strongly preferred. A minimum of three years experience teaching in higher education beyond the TA level.

Desired Qualifications:

MFA and PhD in related field, demonstrable successful collaboration with faculty from diverse disciplines, service to underserved communities, experience with anti-racism in pedagogy.
