Responsibilities:  

Teaching of graduate and undergraduate classes both in the areas of specialization and in core curriculum. The teaching load may be reduced for faculty actively engaged in supervising graduate research and developing a research program. Each faculty member is expected to teach both evening and day courses. Faculty are expected to perform the usual curricular and administrative duties associated with an academic appointment, to engage in research, publish in refereed conference proceedings and journals, and to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to effective teaching, research, and scholarly activities. Faculty are expected to work with students on research activities, community-based projects, or other extracurricular activities. For the purposes of reappointment, tenure, and promotion, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications, and service to the University and community including activities in support of student retention. 

The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she is housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Qualifications:   

Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. All but Dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered but must have completed the doctoral degree by August 22, 2021. Teaching excellence and research potential with strong communication skills and the interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses in the areas of computer science and information technology are necessary qualifications. Specialization in Computer Graphics, Operating Systems, Networks, High performance Computing, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computational Data Science, Database Systems, Cloud Computing, or Software Engineering is desired. Excellent candidates with specialization in other areas will be considered. CSUN is a Learning Centered University with a research and scholarly activity component. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate. Evidence of degree(s) required at time of hire.

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment and ability to teach, mentor and work with a diverse student population.

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to work in the United States.

All positions are contingent upon Provost’s approval and budget considerations.
