Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate General Education courses on the Chicana/o and the Arts, as well as upper division painting and art related studio courses at the graduate level.  The faculty member will also advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate Chicana/o Studies majors.

The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she is housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Qualifications:

MFA in Art with a specialization in drawing and painting or terminal degree in related field from an accredited institution required. Candidate must be a professional working artist with expertise in drawing, painting, printmaking, muralism, experience with Día de Los Muertos traditions, and new interpretations of cultural rituals and community-based practices. Knowledge of Chicana/o/x  Art, Mexican Art, and Mesoamerican Art is required.  Artists with a basic knowledge and/or experience in Native American, AfroLatinx, and/or Indigenous Art are encouraged to apply. The candidate must be active in the field with a record of exhibition and experience with the organization of community-based art events. The successful candidate must be able to teach introductory-level survey courses in Chicana and Chicano Studies and the Arts, as well as related upper division courses and M.A. graduate-level seminars related to the arts.  Evidence of teaching effectiveness is desired. Preferred qualifications include experience teaching courses in Chicana/o Studies or Ethnic Studies, and arts based civic engagement, experience with digital media/technology, online and/or hybrid instruction, and a demonstrated record of educational equity and social justice integrated into their teaching, research, and community-based work.

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment and ability to teach, mentor, and work with a diverse student population.

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to work in the United States.

All positions are contingent upon Provost’s approval and budget considerations.
