Position Summary:

The Department of Genetics in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Madison invites applications for two tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Genetics. One position is in the area of plant genetics and the other is open more broadly to model-organism genetics. The Department seeks scientists who study the genetic and molecular basis of fundamental aspects of inheritance or its phenotypic manifestations at the molecular, cellular and/or organismal levels. These new faculty positions are part of a larger expansion of the Department of Genetics and the college to understand basic biological systems and discover applications of this knowledge in agriculture and human health.

This position is in Plant Genetics (PVL # 99731). We seek a plant geneticist to complement our current strengths in plant science both in the Department of Genetics and at UW-Madison. Applicants working with model plants or crop species with strong potential for basic discoveries in genetics are encouraged to apply.

A second position is in Genetics (PVL # 99730). We seek a geneticist investigating the molecular mechanisms that underlie basic biological processes. Applicants working on model systems such as C. elegans, Drosophila, zebrafish, mouse or other eukaryotic or non-eukaryotic models are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Genetics and the Department of Medical Genetics comprise the Laboratory of Genetics, which offers a stimulating, intellectually diverse and collegial environment with research programs in model organism genetics and genomics, human genetics, evolutionary genetics, plant genetics and other areas of genetics. The Laboratory of Genetics excels at discovering fundamental biological mechanisms through interdisciplinary approaches made possible by a vibrant culture of collaboration. The Laboratory directs an NIH Graduate Training Grant in Genetics that has received continuous funding for 45 years.
