The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for at least one tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Sociology with expertise in the area of Latino Studies beginning in Fall 2021.  Applicants with additional specialization in social theory or social movements are especially encouraged to apply. Duties of the position include teaching at the undergraduate level in face-to-face, hybrid and/or online formats.  In addition to a 3/3 teaching load in the first year and a 4/3 teaching load thereafter, the position requires that the candidate establish a successful program of research and work with others, including students, to engage in research and service activities that support the Department, College (including the Center for Latino Studies) and University.  This position is part of a Latino Studies cluster hire in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Qualifications 

  • Candidates must have received a doctorate in Sociology or related discipline from a regionally-accredited institution by the time of employment. 

Assets

  • Teaching and/or research expertise in Latino Studies
  • Demonstrated active research agenda
  • Experience teaching social theory and/or social movements
  • Qualified to teach a range of undergraduate sociology courses
