The Department of Psychology & Sociology at Angelo State University (ASU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociology. We are primarily interested in candidates with teaching experience and leadership potential who could offer a variety of courses or add depth to the Sociology curriculum in the candidate’s area of expertise. Expected employment date is August, 2021. Reviews of applications will occur as the applications are received and will continue until the position has been successfully filled. The position requires a PhD degree in Sociology; ABD candidates are acceptable provided the PhD degree can be reasonably obtained within the first 12 months after hire date. Upon hire, the candidate would be expected to manage a 12-hour course load equivalent per semester and participate in student advising. Candidates should also be prepared to develop a student-centered research program. assist in managing Sociology course offerings, participant in program assessments periodically, and collaborate with the department in recruitment and retention initiatives for Sociology majors. Candidates with online teaching experience are especially requested. 

About the Department. The Psychology and Sociology Department at ASU offers undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology as well as Master’s degrees in Applied, Counseling, Experimental, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Nineteen full-time faculty members are active in student-centered research across a wide variety of topics to support over 300 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate students. In addition, the department has research capabilities that can support basic social, experimental social, and social/neuropsychological research endeavors.
