The Department of Epidemiology is seeking aResearch Program Manager. This position will be responsible for overseeing an NIH-funded, multi-site cohort for HIV prevention research among transgender and gender diverse people and related supplemental studies.

The study utilizes technology enhanced research methods and interested candidates should have a passion both for working with the community as well as using novel technology-based research methods.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day administrative and scientific implementation of research protocols for complex, multisite research studies.
  • Manage the administrative implementation of nested grants, track study progress.
  • Manage coordination of study and communication across sites and formats (online and in-person research implementation), including coordinator and staff adherence to study protocol.
  • Independently identify, propose, and implement solutions to study needs and challenges related to scientific operations
  • As part of study team, collaborate with faculty, develop/revise protocols, develop/revise SOPs, and supervise study-related activities for the cohort and nested studies.
  • Be a primary contact for external collaborators to answer scientific and logistic questions. Prepare and provide answers, documents and directions as needed.
  • Accountable for grant submission and administration, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work with PI and site investigators to prepare and draft annual progress reports for the Institutional Review Board.
  • Work with PI to prepare and present reports to the Community Advisory Board and local stakeholders.
  • Liaise with IRB staff to determine and respond to protocol deviation and protocol events.
  • Oversee administrative processes, liaise with scientific leadership, and oversee legal agreements process between partners.
  • Organize and manage original data files for research projects.
  • Develop quality control protocols for data management, provide training to and oversee staff on their use.
  • Conduct regular data audits of data collected internally (JHU) and externally (via collaborating sites) and provide audit summaries to staff and participating sites to identify and resolve problems in research instruments, data collection, and data entry.
  • Coordinate and contribute to manuscripts, including statistical analysis and write-up.
  • Prepare reports for existing grants and new grant applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related discipline. Related Master's preferred. Five years related experience. Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job

Preferred Qualifications:

    Related Master's preferred Experience working with the transgender (preferable) or LGBTQI community Experience interfacing with ethical review boards (IRBs)

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

    Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows software.
  • Familiarity with research management software such as Endnote and cloud-based collaboration and document management tools such as Office 365, Google Teams
  • Technical aptitude to learn new technologies, skills and software required.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through lab/work environment.

Working Coniditons: This position will be remote until normal campus activities resume.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
