Position will support research projects to investigate environmental and occupational exposures to microbial pathogens and human health outcomes. The primary focus of the lab is development of novel, non-invasive assays to assess exposure to and infection with SARS-CoV-2 and human endemic coronaviruses, influenza and other respiratory viruses,S. aureus, and diverse enteric pathogens. The lab applies these novel assays in population-based studies of microbial exposure, infection, and immunity. Work requires use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques; though training will be provided, previous experience and a profound understanding of theory behind experiments to perform data analysis and troubleshoot situations that need special attention with a substantial degree of independence are highly preferred.

  • Perform nucleic acid extraction on saliva, anterior nares, serum, and plasma.
  • Test biospecimens from community-based and clinical study populations for SARS-CoV-2, influenza viruses, and other microbial pathogens.
  • Perform real-time PCR assays, Luminex microsphere magnetic bead-based immunoassays, ELISA.
