Chair, Occupational Therapy Department (MGH IHP)
The MGH Institute of Health Professions (MGH Institute) in Boston invites nominations and applications for the Chairperson of the Department of Occupational Therapy. Our entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program (OTD) graduated its first class in 2017 and, in its first ever ranking from US News and World Report, placed in the top 12% in the country. Our faculty, students, and alumni have already made their mark on the profession and the clients we serve with many state, national, and international presentations and numerous awards, publications, fellowships, and grants. In Fall 2020 we will enroll our first class in the Post-Professional Doctoral Program (PP-OTD), an online program designed for working professionals.
We are seeking a visionary leader in our School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) team joining highly ranked masters and doctoral programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Genetic Counseling, and a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences The candidate for this position should be a champion for Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Practice (IPP) and well versed in issues related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in education and healthcare. This position represents a unique opportunity for an innovative professional to build important partnerships within our practice community and support the Institute’s goals of preparing health professions leaders, advancing health care for our diverse communities, and contributing to a culture of inclusive excellence.
Reporting directly to the Dean of SHRS, the Department Chair will mentor and support outstanding faculty who are at diverse stages of their academic careers. Opportunities abound for collaborations in research and scholarship and clinical practice within the department and SHRS, across the Institute, and in local, regional, and international locations. Our academic and clinical affiliations offer unparalleled opportunities to learn and work alongside expert educators and practitioners in a variety of medical, educational, and community settings, including our new onsite interprofessional Impact Practice Center.
Located in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, the MGH Institute is an independent graduate school affiliated with the Mass General Brigham System, which includes nationally and internationally renowned institutions such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a physician’s network, community health centers, and other healthcare entities. The Institute is composed of three schools: SHRS, the School of Nursing, and the Center for Interprofessional Studies and Innovation, which houses a master’s program and a PhD in Health Professions Education (See video).
The Chair will be responsible for aspects of academic leadership and administration within the department as the head of an administrative group including two Program Directors and a program manager. The adaptable, visionary, and future-thinking candidate would preferably have a record of successful collaborations; strong communication skills; and be a proponent of emerging practice areas and innovative solutions.
- Doctoral degree, PhD or similar preferred
- Experience as an OT educator
- Licensed or eligible for OT licensure in Massachusetts
- Experience with academic programs and clinical partnership development
- Experience with ACOTE accreditation
- Consistent record of scholarship and service
The position is a 12-month appointment, with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
