Applications are invited for an appointment as Principal Professional Practitioner in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref. 502499), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A Professor of Practice title may be offered to outstanding candidates, subject to approval by the university.
The Department of Real Estate and Construction (REC) enjoys a world class reputation for research and teaching. The Department runs long established, highly successful, and very competitive undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with alumni holding senior positions in both the public and private sectors, as well as academia. The research expertise of academic staff spans the land conversion process making for a dynamic research environment. REC is one of the three departments in the Faculty of Architecture, which ranked 14th in the world under the QS University Subject Rankings 2020 in the subject area of Built Environment. Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or above in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution and be a registered professional surveyor in Hong Kong. They should have at least 20 years’ work experience in dispute resolution practice with teaching experience. Preference will be given to those with solid professional practice knowledge and track record specializing in planning, land, and building matters.
The appointee will develop and enhance the Department’s teaching programmes, undertake teaching duties at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise students, and contribute to administrative duties in the Department. The undergraduate and taught Masters programmes offered by the Department are accredited by a number of international and local professional bodies. Experience in teaching a profession-oriented or studio-based programme would be an advantage.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
