Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, the Institutional Research Analyst works collaboratively across the institution to provide data-informed support for planning, policy development, and strategic decision making.  The Institutional Research Analyst supports the Institute by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information essential for evaluating institutional effectiveness with an emphasis on equity, student learning, satisfaction, and success.

Essential Functions

Supports the completion of research-oriented tasks by planning, preparing, and producing a variety of regular and ad hoc reports and publications to meet external regulations and internal needs.

  • Internal Reporting: respond to regular and ad hoc requests for institutional data; works with IT and other data sources to write clear and concise reports and dashboards readable by a wide variety of audiences, such as: retention reports, faculty factsheets and salary reports, student/faculty ratios, faculty/staff diversity information, data to support grant proposals, room usage analysis, integrated planning updates, etc. Determines information needs and desired analyses by interviewing those requesting data collection and reporting.
  • External Reporting: write reports that respond to federally-mandated, consortia, marketing, and IRB-approved research requests for institutional data from external agencies, educational institutions, associations and societies
  • Benchmarking: identify peer institutions based on specific inquiries and develop comparison reports using external data
  • Survey Administration: coordinate national research surveys by serving as the primary administrative contact, scheduling, developing announcement, identifying samples, facilitating delivery to participants, ensuring timelines are met, as well as receiving, analyzing, and communicating results. The Institutional Research Analyst also develops and administers, or advises on, internal surveys for the institute.
  • Student Learning Assessment: support faculty, deans, and administrators in direct learning assessment studies by designing research protocols and analyzing results.
  • Current IR Practices: Stay abreast of changes in policies and procedures; maintain knowledge of current trends, events, and emerging issues. Participates in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops to keep informed of current ideas, research, and practices related to the field.
  • Contributions to Work Environment: Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Other related duties or special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred, with 3-5 years of experience involving statistical research, analysis, interpretation and reporting, or equivalent education and experience
  • Proficient in the use of computer software for data extraction, verification, and analysis, as well as working with a relational database (familiarity with SQL, Excel, and other statistical software)
  • Experience in using SPSS, SAS or other comparable statistical analysis program for reporting and decision support
  • Experience with survey writing and design
  • Strong knowledge of institutional research, learning assessment, and planning functions within postsecondary education
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and accrediting agencies' regulations related to data collection and research in higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and presentation skills; with an ability to interpret and present data for a creative constituency of arts professionals
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills
  • The ability to reason analytically, proficiency in producing technical reports, the demonstrated successful management of multiple short- and long-term projects, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are required.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Doctoral degree in related area
  • Working knowledge of Colleague ERP
  • Experience with data visualization in Tableau
