General Description of Position
The University of Mary Washington invites applications for a position as lecturer or senior lecturer of computer science, to begin August 16, 2021. This is a not a tenure-track position, but is a full-time renewable term faculty position. Our close-knit team of eight faculty specializes in working with eager undergraduate students in small classes and in one-on-one mentoring settings. Our instructors get the opportunity to teach a variety of computer science subjects and also to work hands-on with selected students on research projects of their choosing. We encourage innovative pedagogy, place value on research in computer science education, and foster a teamwork approach to teaching. Highly qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate dedication to effective teaching and high-impact learning in an inclusive environment that embraces diverse talents and backgrounds.
The candidate must have earned a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field. Successful applicants will demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching at the undergraduate level, the ability to teach a variety of computer science topics, and an interest in working one-on-one with interested students. The normal teaching load is three sections per semester in small classes.
Instructors are expected to engage in professional development; perform service in support of the students, the program, and the institution; and be committed to continuous curricular enhancement in response to changing needs and expectations. Candidates must also have effective oral and written communication skills.

Master’s degree in computer science or related field.

Commitment to undergraduate education.
Successful and demonstrable teaching experience in computer science

Breadth of teaching experience.
A view of computer science consistent with the goals of the
department and the mission of the college.
Interest in teaching and developing courses across the
curriculum.
Experience supervising undergraduate research projects, individual
study projects, or internships.
