Director for Diversity Initiatives
The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) at Old
Dominion University is accepting applications for the Director for
Diversity Initiatives (full-time, 12 month) position. This position
will assist in coordinating planning, implementation, evaluation,
and enhancement of the University’s diversity agenda and to provide
first-line services to develop and achieve the institution’s
diversity goals. This position will also spearhead initiatives
necessary to create and sustain a working and learning environment
that is welcoming, affirming, and inclusive of all individuals.
This includes working in collaboration with the assistant
vice-president for Institutional Equity and Diversity and the
President’s Task Force on Inclusive Excellence to plan, implement,
monitor, and assess efforts that support the Inclusive Excellence
framework (strategic diversity plan).
Required Education: Master’s degree in public administration, diversity and inclusion, human resources, higher education, or a related field of study.
Required Qualifications: Comprehensive experience demonstrating an understanding of legal concepts as they pertain to diversity, equal opportunity, and affirmative action within higher education and/or other similar work environments. Comprehensive knowledge of and prior working experience with diverse cultures, including networks in diverse communities. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the legal framework surrounding diversity, equal opportunity and affirmative action planning. Strong consulting skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Strong problem identification and solving skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation. Strong program coordination and organizational skills. Effective and well-developed facilitation, presentation, liaison and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and build effective internal and external relationships. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically and to facilitate execution of initiatives. Demonstrated ability to propose creative solutions to recruit and retain diverse candidates.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in public administration, diversity and inclusion, human resources, higher education, or a related field of study.
