Eastern Michigan University School of Music & Dance announces a faculty search for an

Assistant Professor of Trumpet. This is a full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning Fall, 2021.

 

Duties: Teach applied trumpet to undergraduate and graduate trumpet majors and minors; actively recruit, advise and maintain an outstanding studio of applied trumpet students; additional teaching assignments may include a secondary instrument brass class, and/or other courses dependent upon studio load and the candidate’s experience and expertise; maintain active scholarly/creative activity with a high level of professional visibility at regional and national events; provide service through participation in governance and committees within the School of Music & Dance and the University.

 

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in music is preferred; master’s degree plus 18 hrs. graduate credit, or equivalent professional experience, is required. Applicants will have an established record of excellence as an educator and demonstrate a high level of artistry as a versatile performer. Pedagogical knowledge and/or performance experience should include solo repertoire, concert and chamber ensembles, as well as jazz and commercial styles. Primary consideration will be given to candidates with a successful record of recruitment and teaching applied trumpet at the collegiate level. Candidates should demonstrate experience and/or potential for innovative pedagogy in preparing students to navigate the 21st century musical landscape. In addition, the successful candidate will have excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, and be committed to working in a collaborative environment.
