Summary

The part-time (20 hrs/wk) Senior Editor will assist in the writing, editing and proofreading of department publications, reports, philanthropic correspondence and proposals for the Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Will assist the Section Chief in writing material for use in manuscripts, presentations, letters and proposals to foundations, philanthropy and scientific journals. In addition, will collaborate with internal faculty and fellows as they refine their scientific papers as well in order to increase the output and dissemination of research and scientific papers.

Job Duties

Planning & Development (30%)

  • Assists in developing methodology for research projects.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular paper
  • Identifies funding opportunities and new program areas to match section priorities.
  • May engage with program officers at different organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
  • Assists in the planning and development of special projects.


Scientific/Technical Writing (50%)

  • Collaborates with faculty, post-docs, and students in preparing manuscripts, research proposals/protocols papers, chapters, presentations, and all other textual material. This includes helping draft personal statements, letters of support and biosketches. Writes, edits, and reviews grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents as well as primary drafted manuscripts.
  • Edits and oversees production of departmental, philanthropic and patient newsletters/flyers.
  • Gathers information to aid and prepare writings and publications of scientific reports, as well as philanthropic updates to donors
  • Proofreads manuscripts, book chapters, and department publications.
  • Writes, edits, and reviews grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents as well as primary drafted manuscripts.


Formatting/Editing (20%)

  • Ensures that all materials meet established standards as to appearance and content.
  • Edits manuscripts and prepares them for submission to publications according to journal/publication requirements.
  • Acts as liaison with publishers and collaborating faculty at other institutions.
  • Generates proposals and supporting documents following agency guidelines in response to requests for proposals or as part of solicitation strategy.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English or related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred is a PhD with technical/writing experience.
  • An individual with a background in technical or scientific writing, with a PhD, is preferred for this role.
