Conduct research and provide in‐depth, policy‐relevant analysis
of the most pressing issues facing India.
Train
new generations of scholars of contemporary India in
multidisciplinary settings and catalyze interest in India within
the student body at JHU.
Promote public engagement by designing seminars, lecture series,
conferences, publications, and outreach.
Build
and expand partnerships and collaborative research, education,
training, policy, and care initiatives with academic and
non-academic partners in India and
internationally.
- Designs and executes strategy and ensures goals and timelines are met
- Coordinates activities with India-based India Institute program staff
- Collaborates with the Faculty Steering Committee.
- This may include a broad set of activities including but not limited to: identifying themes and topics for research, academic symposia and other public presentations and seminars, coordinating public outreach, helping to identify and recruit potential speakers, overseeing visiting fellows programs, executing student engagement strategies, and more
- Works with Faculty Steering Committee on goals for research, education, training, translation of ideas into products, events and convening of relevant parties for discussions on various topics, community development, and support for individual labs and conferences, etc.
- This includes assisting in faculty and student research, education, as well as training efforts to support Institute’s goals.
- Prepares the Faculty Steering Committee to undertake a wide range of internal and external interactions with faculty, students, University Administration, Trustees, donors and external stakeholders as needed.
- Develops briefing materials for senior leadership on various topics.
- Leads or supports communications/events/public programs, finance, development, and other functions.
- Helps develop new content, ideas, programs, and other activities to support and expand the mission of the Institute.
- Serves as a connector across divisions and offices within Johns Hopkins.
- Acts as Institute liaison to internal groups across Johns Hopkins such as Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), Government and Community Affairs, Johns Hopkins Facilities and Real Estate, Office of the General Counsel, Budget and Finance teams and others.
- Works with Development and Alumni Relations to facilitate existing relationships and to identify, cultivate and manage new relationships for the Institute.
- Helps to identify and prioritize a range of funding opportunities to support Institute’s goals and coordinate across DAR groups to ensure work considers broader Hopkins needs.
- Acts as representative of Institute as needed with various constituencies and, in concert with DAR, supports preparation of proposals and materials.
- Works closely with Office of the Provost on strategic budgeting decisions, design, and reporting on all activities and financial issues from year to year.
- Supports external engagement.
- In cooperation with DAR, maintains relationship with India Institute Advisory Council, including responsibility for all agendas, reports, materials, background readings, in preparation for meetings.
- Develops relationships with outside groups including other university institutes, non-profits, think tanks, policymakers, etc.
- Identifies ways for groups to interact, resources to be accessed etc.
- Leads communication to Indian, US, and global audiences.
- In cooperation with DAR, leads all reporting requirements for the Institute (to DAR entities, internal stakeholders, and leadership).
- Drafts, edits and/or reviews communications, briefings, remarks, presentations, collateral (print and electronic), website, social media, and other.
- Coordinates marketing, branding, and outreach across whole university.
- Plans and executes programs for the Institute including events, conferences, webcasts, etc.
- Bachelor’s Degreein related field required.
- Five (5) years work experience in related fields such as healthcare or public health, politics, NGO, or other areas including strategy, leadership and/or management roles required.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA in business, marketing, program management, or other related filed preferred.
- Advanced degree in business, health management or other related discipline preferred.
- Experience in communications and program development very helpful.
- Proficiency in Hindi or other language of India a plus.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Previous international experience preferred, with experience in India particularily helpful. (Three years minimum)
- Previous experience in management and organizational strategy. (Five years minimum)
- Interest in developing relationships and working with others.
- Capacity for navigating complex organizations.
- Highly organized and attentive to details.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Previous experience in developing and launching programs.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills including comfort with public speaking and experience with marketing and communications.
- Passion for scientific and health-related research.
- Familiarity with university settings is a bonus, particularly previous experience at JHU.
- Comfort with budgetary and financial planning.
Schedule: Monday-Friday - 8:30am-5:00pm 37.5hrs/Wk -This position may require travel and some weekend work as needed. Due to COVID-19, this person will be telecommuting until University restrictions on non-essential, non-clinical work is lifted.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
