General Summary/Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Research Psychologist (Lead Clinical Psychedelic Session Guide/Facilitator) at the Johns Hopkins’ Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research (CPCR) is to assist in experimental sessions that involve administering mind-altering, hallucinogenic, psychedelic drugs as part of an outpatient pharmacological research protocol with psychedelics. The Research Psychologist will conduct psychedelic sessions with research participants that may include individuals with a range of complex disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Alcohol Use Disorder, Alzheimer Disease, Dementia, and Depression. The Research Psychologist will assist in determining participant qualification for the study, performing interviews, maintaining study documentation, completing pre- and post-session interviews, and administering telephone interviews.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

    Provide individual counseling and interpersonal support to study participants during study session and pre/post-integration sessions. Assess medial/clinical conditions of study participants during sessions and communicate information to BPRU medical staff as needed to address emergent medical and psychological issues. Monitor, guide, evaluate, and rate various activities of study participants throughout sessions Conduct pre-assessment evaluations with study participants before experimental sessions, integration assessments shortly after experimental sessions, and additional assessments at follow-up sessions. Facilitate resolution of interpersonal conflicts and psychodynamic issues and guided imagery to facilitate and enhance participants’ counseling sessions. Demonstrate effective crises resolution. Develop, implement, and maintains planning for caseload. Refer participants to outside sources or agencies when appropriate. Record data and observations at specific time points before, during, and after experimental sessions. Develop a positive and supportive relationship with study participants, Practice acceptable ethical and behavioral standards of conduct, andpromote andensure good clinical practices, ensuring adherence to clinical research protocols.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

    Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology (PH.D, PsyD, etc) or M.D. in Psychiatry. 2 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Doctorallevel training in psychotherapy.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Excellent oral communication skills to deal effectively within and outside the department. Ability to interact with faculty and staff on research teams, in clinical programs, and with educational outreach initiative to strategize about their communication needs. Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultures. Outstanding clinical research examination skills and thorough knowledge of psychiatric diseases and psychopathology. Ability to make diagnostic formulations and write clear and organized case summaries. Flexible and variable hours.
Any Specific Physical Requirements for the Job:

    Able to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods. Able to reach by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required, able to manipulate objects with fingers rather than entire hand(s) or arm(s), e.g., use of computer keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
