Position Title Director of Residence Life Overview

Administrator and supervise the residence life staff. Ensure a residential atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, personal, social, and spiritual development of the resident students. Provide oversight of the disciplinary procedures in effect in the residence halls and apartments, assigning sanctions as appropriate and making necessary referrals to the Director of Community Standards. Supervise the Complex Directors and the Associate Director. Other areas include the overall management of the Residence Life administrative systems database and the oversight department protocols and policies. Implement assessment initiatives and data collection and comparison. Serve as contact person between Residence Life, Athletics, Student Accounts, and Security. Serve in the Administrator On-Call rotation. Serve as the representative for Residence Life to the campus community.

Essential Duties:

1. Ensure that the overall mission is being promoted in the Residence Halls and that an appropriate quality of life is provided to the students. Conduct weekly staff meetings with professional staff and prepare performance evaluations on direct reports. Provide supervision of the Administrative Coordinator and student workers.

2. Review and process incident reports and oversee the enforcement of security and other College policies in the halls and apartments. Manage department judicial procedures, assignments, and sanctions as appropriate and make necessary referrals to the Director of Community Standards. Ensure compliance with various legal requirements, particularly the Cleary Reporting Act. Provide counseling to resident students as needed. Assist in resolving roommate conflicts.

3. Administer department assessment tools, collect data, and provide reports. Assist in the development and maintenance of a department assessment plan. Make recommendations based on data comparisons.

4. Provide indirect supervision of all residence halls. Manage administrative processes including move-in, closings, housing selection and housing assignments. Maintain the Blackboard and Persona card systems and communicate security concerns to upper management and other appropriate offices.

5. Manage all facets of the Residence Life duty management system. Distribute duty schedules to respective college offices and notify these offices of changes as required. Maintain on-duty radio/cell equipment and ensure devices are operational. Coordinate the distribution of information appropriately to various administrators, as needed. Provide crisis intervention training to the Residence Life staff and maintain the Crisis Management Manual.

Marginal Duties:

1. Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring and training of Hall Directors and Resident Assistants. Oversee the supervision and training of student employees. Coordinate the payment schedule of Resident Assistants and student workers.

2. Train officers and board members of the Residence Hall Association. Prepare and monitor expenditures form the RHA programming account.

3. Plan and attend special events.

4. Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience Required

• Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Student Personnel Services, Higher Education, or related field.

• Minimum of two years of experience in crisis intervention, short and long term planning, college housing and disciplinary systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated experience in supervising professional and para-professional staff.

• Computer and fiscal management skills.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

• Demonstrated experience in the areas of staff training and development, crisis intervention, student conduct case adjudication, living and learning communities, and alcohol/drug education.
