Reporting to the SVP of Marketing and Communications, the Executive Director Advancement Marketing serves as one of the lead Marketing Strategists for the Marketing and Communications Division with the goal of advancing fundraising and alumni engagement goals. A strategic-thinker who can translate big-picture marketing vision to implementable operational plans, this individual is a dot-connector who must understand how all of our marketing efforts can work together to build our brand and goals on behalf of the Advancement team. The ED is the University’s most senior level marketing professional responsible for partnering with the Advancement and External Affairs team to understand their business plans, in order to develop marketing plans and then lead a team in driving those plans and all of their elements from concept to completion. This includes engaging with Advancement and External Affairs leadership, presenting to their senior team and attending weekly meetings. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten (10) years in marketing strategy development.

• Minimum of seven (7) years leading diverse marketing teams with a focus on fundraising and philanthropy.

• Higher education fundraising experience.

• A track record of implementing significant fundraising and marketing campaigns which meet or exceeded stated measurable goals.

• Deep experience across the spectrum of fundraising marketing.

• Understands Direct and Email Marketing techniques and best practices.

• Has worked on campaigns targeting all levels of donors.

• Experience crafting and managing campaigns targeting major gift donors.

• Experience and comfort interfacing with major donors.

Job Specific Qualifications

• A big-picture thinker, is able to connect dots across multiple campaigns to drive an enterprise-level approach to strategic marketing.

• Deep understanding and experience about brand expression and experience and knows how to bring a brand to life through strategic marketing campaigns.

• A team player. Works collaboratively with diverse groups inside and outside of the University. Experience working in a team-centric operation.

• Outstanding communication and organizational skills are necessary. This individual must be able to work well with an exceptionally wide range of people including senior executive and administrative staff; deans, faculty; students; media representatives; volunteers and other employees.

• Calm under pressure. Can manage stressful situations in a solution-oriented way with a positive attitude.

• Comfortable working irregular hours.

• A do-er. Responsible for ensuring hundreds of marketing programs and campaigns roll out on-time and on-budget.

• Excellent management and organizational skills with good attention to detail and follow up, and has a demonstrated ability in managing staff and teams.

• Must also have the ability to oversee and execute multiple projects simultaneously while working effectively under the pressure of last minute deadlines and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the leadership of the Marketing Strategy Team dedicated to Advancement and Alumni Engagement.

• Works to deeply understand the AEA teams goals and timeline for the year. Builds out a marketing plan, roadmap and calendar for the year with key campaigns, milestones and initiatives.

• Serves as lead marketer on special projects as needed. Interfaces with major donors, board and committee members on special projects.

• Uses deep knowledge of DM/EM and other fundraising marketing best practices to guide daily decision-making of marketing material orientation.

• Directs team in the development and implementation of strategic marketing and campaign plans.

• Works closely with business units, team and other marketing teams to ensure effective prioritization and planning annually.

• Makes sure resources are in place to partner with other units to build marketing plans that help them advance their strategic priorities.

• Guides and mentors team members in identifying effective components and approaches to campaigns.

• Leverages research and analytics to guide marketing approaches and creative decisions.

• Provides strategic counsel to Executive and Sr. Leadership within Marketing and Communications and Advancement divisions.

• Partners with Advancement teams in schools and colleges and other units.

• Directs the development of marketing plans and related materials.

• Helps team members trouble-shoot challenges.

• Works with other leaders to ensure marketing programs roll out on time and on budget.

• Member of Marketing & Communications Sr. Leadership Team. Provides counsel to SVP and collaborates on building a best-in-class marketing operation.

• Stays up-to-date on industry trends.

• Mentors team and provides University-wide education on fundraising marketing best practices.
