The Physics department at Syracuse University is soliciting applications for a post-doctoral researcher that will conduct work in physics of cancer research in the groups of Jen Schwarz (Syracuse University), Lisa Manning (Syracuse University), and Mingming Wu (Cornell University). Desirable experience should be in at least one of the following areas: quantitative biology, soft matter.
The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility for renewal.
The selected candidate will use modeling and experimental approaches that will be conducted at Syracuse University in the groups of Jen Schwarz and Lisa Manning to be followed by experimental tests of the modeling predictions in the group of Mingming Wu at Cornell University. The candidate’s background should be a recent Ph.D. in quantitative biology (theory and/or experiments) or in soft matter (theory and/or experiments).
Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, their curriculum vitae that includes a list of publications, a brief description of their research interests, and the e-mail addresses/phone numbers of at least three references to the online position posting. Qualifications

Ph.D. in quantitative biology (theory and/or experiments) or in soft matter (theory and/or experiments).

Job Specific Qualifications

Desirable experience should be in at least one of the following areas: quantitative biology, soft matter.

Responsibilities

Modeling and experimental approaches to answer the question of how does the interplay between the mechanics of the extracellular matrix ( ECM ) and the rigidity/fluidity of an embedded tumor spheroid potentially prime the spheroid for invasion?
The modeling will be conducted at Syracuse University in the groups of Jen Schwarz and Lisa Manning to be followed by experimental tests of the modeling predictions in the group of Mingming Wu at Cornell University. The successful candidate will be uniquely poised to tackle additional problems in living matter where close feedback between modeling and experiments is needed to help constrain the modeling.

Physical Requirements Tools/Equipment Application Instructions

In addition to completing an online application, please attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae that includes a list of publications, a brief description of research interests (submit to ‘Other Document’), and the e-mail addresses/phone numbers of at least three references (submit to ‘Reference List’) to the online position posting.
