Job Summary/Basic Function

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

We are a teaching intensive institution and are committed to community based research, service learning, community engagement and distance education. Our small classes allow for close mentoring and collaborative research with undergraduates.

Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, field activities and placements, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Primary teaching responsibility is for the online RN – BSN program and MSN program; however there may be additional person-to-person or online courses taught in other degree programs such as the doctoral program and general education program. Establish an active research program that involves students. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes and conduct classes on and off the Millersville campus through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. All members of the faculty also have the responsibility to accept those reasonable duties assigned to them within their fields of competence. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.

SERVICE :

Provide service on an ongoing basis by contributing professionally to department and university governance outside the classroom for the university, professional community, and community at large, in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity. Candidates must be willing to participate in undergraduate- and graduate-level curricular, assessment, and evaluation activities including co-curricular activities and assisting in activities associated with maintaining program and university accreditation at the state and national levels.

May include but is not limited to: Supervise students / interns / co-ops / field experiences / clinicals / independent studies / individualized instructions / capstone projects / scholarly projects. Other reasonable duties assigned within the faculty member’s field of competence.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION :

The Department of Nursing, in the College of Science and Technology, is comprised of six full-time faculty members, three regular part-time faculty members, two support staff, and approximately 500 students. All programs are accredited via CCNE and include RN to BSN completion, MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator, and Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Required Qualifications
  • ABD, with PhD or DNP, in Nursing with evidence of completion by date of eligibility to apply for reappointment to second year, January 30, 2022.
  • MSN .
  • Currently holds RN license in PA (or be eligible for).
  • Prior teaching experience, including online teaching, at college/university level.
  • Evidence of commitment to publication, research and clinical practice.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching (as documented by at least two letters of recommendation) and communication skills.
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful interview, teaching demonstration, reference checks and 3 background clearances.

  • Earned doctoral degree (PhD or DNP ) in Nursing.
  • Record of scholarly presentations at professional meetings.
