Job Summary

Plans and performs financial and operational audits and assignments of University units.

Essential Functions

1. Plans audits and assignments in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors ( IIA ) standards while
documenting assignments in work papers and audit files.
2. Performs audits and assignments in accordance with IIA standards while documenting audit testing
and work.
3. Develops recommendations to improve operations and processes to ensure appropriate internal
controls are in place to reduce risks.
4. Assists and advises management and staff regarding financial and accounting matters, policies
and procedures, and internal controls.
5. Assembles reports and work papers and performs various clerical duties as needed.
6. Represents the Internal Auditing Department on University committees and other meetings.

Bachelor's Degree

Degree in Business, Management, Accounting,
Finance, or related field.

OR, Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field PLUS credential as a Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Public Accountant.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

Level II requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Accounting,
Finance, or related field plus 2 years of experience in the policies, laws and practices of internal auditing.

Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Accounting,
Finance, or related field plus 4 years of experience in the policies, laws and practices of internal auditing.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Level I Responsibility: Under immediate supervision, performs standard tasks using established methods, principles, concepts and procedures related to a specialized field. Judgments are made on routine matters of relatively small impact.
Level I Knowledge: Knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.

Level II Responsibility: Under close supervision, performs varied duties and assignments involving some judgment. Resolves routine questions or problems, referring only complex issues to higher level. Some evaluation, originality and ingenuity required.
Level II Knowledge: Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization, with awareness of
related fields.

Level III Responsibility: Under minimal supervision, performs complex assignments and fulfills broad responsibilities where required outcomes are defined, but methods and procedures may vary based on professional judgment or precedent. Considerable latitude for unreviewed action. Confers with supervisor on unusual matters. Coordinates the work of others on projects and may assign work to and assist less experienced
professionals or support staff. May act in an advisory capacity to managers or faculty.

Level III Knowledge: Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments. Also possesses knowledge of related fields and areas of operation which affect, or are affected by, own area.

Minimum License and Certifications

Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Public Accountant is a minimum requirement for Level III

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include ability to multi-task, excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
