Position Title: Professor in Film, Department Chair (Tenured)

Department: Media, Journalism and Film, Cathy Hughes School of Communications

Reports to: Dean, Cathy Hughes School of Communications

Basic Functions: Teach courses in film production and/or theory/critical media studies, conduct creative and/or academic research, serve in a key leadership position as department chair and provide service to the national and/or international film and media communities.

Supervisory Accountability: As Department Chair, the holder of this position shall work closely with Sequence Coordinators, Program Directors and the Department’s Executive Committee members. The Chair shall report directly to the Dean of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications. Chair positions are designated in three-year increments.

Nature and Scope: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate film courses and graduate film courses. The candidate will also provide academic service in the position as department chair. This candidate will undertake creative research and/or scholarly research as well as serve on school-wide and university-wide committees.

Principal Accountabilities: The faculty member at the level of Full Professor rank, shall be evaluated annually in four key areas—Creative and/or Scholarly Research, Teaching, Professional Development and University/Community Service.

Description of Position: The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in film as well as serve in the position of department chairperson. This full-time position at the level of Full Professor begins July 1, 2021.

Minimum Qualifications:
• M.F.A. in film or related discipline (or) Ph.D. in film studies, culture studies or related discipline
• Demonstrated academic leadership working with faculty, students and administrators
• Experience teaching film production and/or film/media studies at the college-level
• Creative and/or scholarly research focus on independent filmmaking and international film culture
• Commitment to furthering the goals of a diverse and interdisciplinary academic department dedicated to greater film and media representation of African American, African Diaspora and other communities of color
