The Department of English in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position beginning August 1, 2021. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

With thirty-four full-time faculty members, the Department of English offers a B.A. with emphases in both Literature and Language and in Journalism as well a dual degree that leads to both a B.A. in English and a B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education. The department also supports an on-campus M.A. (with literature and rhetoric/composition tracks) and an online M.A. designed for in-service language arts teachers. The department houses a myriad of impressive student publications including the Spectator (student newspaper), Omnino (undergraduate research journal), On Tap (general-interest magazine), and Odradek (literary magazine). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a standard load of 4/4 per academic year. Classes may include varieties of professional writing as well as first-year writing at the undergraduate level and varied rhetoric and composition classes at the graduate level. The successful candidate will have a background or interest in developing and growing experiential learning opportunities in the department.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in English at the time of appointment with a specialization in Rhetoric and Composition, Professional Writing, Technical Writing or a closely related field;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise in areas such as digital rhetoric, professional writing, grant writing, digital publishing and editing;
  • Teaching experience in first-year composition;
  • Experience with online teaching;
  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
  • A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds
