The Nancy Thompson Learning Commons (NTLC) of Kean University uses innovative technologies and multiple modalities of delivery of student academic support services that are connected and immersed within its wide array of resources, content collections and services.  The NTLC contributes to and assists with academic and scholarly resources campus-wide, as well as with student activities and Kean community programs and units.  We seek a Director of Learning Support Services with a vision to help redefine the role of traditional academic libraries, learning spaces/methods and learning services support programs to foster student success and to prepare students for challenges of the 21st century via immersive engagement.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Learning Support Services organizes, plans, and directs the delivery of learning support services programs and their interface with the campus community. The Director provides visionary leadership to guide the NTLC in its ongoing transformation through dynamic changes in all aspects of learning support services and their connectivity to research and scholarly works. The Director will create and manage an increasingly networked, interactive, and collaborative environment in which student learning support services are provided anytime and anywhere, and not simply about remediation or skill sets development. The Director will continuously evaluate, engage the broader KU Community and external partners to meet the evolving needs of the NTLC mission at a world-class campus in a global learning environment that ensures equity, access, and academic excellence through data driven decision-making. These include changes in the way student learning is acquired, delivered, consumed, shared and reconstituted among KU students, faculty, and staff for educational, research and professional development purposes. The Director will administrate across multiple campuses to advance Kean University’s research, teaching and global agendas that are connected to its IMPACT Program (Insightful, Manageable and Practical Partnerships to Activate Collaboration and Teamwork) with the Kean Community. The Director works closely with the Director of Digital Information Resources in the NTLC and is also responsible for the supervision of assigned staff, including their data-driven assessment, evaluation and hiring.

This position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Work schedule is assigned according to shifts/rotations to cover 24/7 facility and service operations that may vary by academic and calendar year. Operations Management includes the Kean USA campus, as well as other programs/divisions at Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands and its additional location Wenzhou-Kean University, in China. This includes potential travel to and assignments of work at other locations.

This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the workday during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university protocol.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in or related to Curriculum Development/Learning (or Education) and two years of professional experience in a research, educational and/or learning commons setting with advanced understanding of digital and face-to-face delivery of services and best practices to support services and student engagement is required. Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree with Master’s equivalent experience such as an extraordinary record of accomplishments in a research, educational and/or learning commons setting will be considered as determined by the University. Specialty in Education, Instructional Design or student learning support pedagogy is preferred. Prior experience in the delivery and/or direction of writing, speaking and tutoring academic student support services is also preferred.

Application: Please send cover letter, resume and contact information for three professional references to: Search Committee Chairperson, Nancy Thompson Learning Commons, by email to ntljobs@kean.edu. Candidacy review begins immediately and continues until appointment is made. Official transcripts for all degrees and three current letters of recommendation are required prior to the starting date of employment.
