The Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with a specialization in Inquiry and Research Practice in Teaching and Teacher Education. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2021. 

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Education or a closely related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We are seeking an educator and scholar with demonstrated teaching expertise in teacher research and inquiry-based learning, as well as experience facilitating school-university and/or research-practice partnerships. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an emerging record of teaching-related scholarly activity (in the form of publications, presentations, grants, and/or dissemination activities), including an active program of research related to teacher knowledge, inquiry, and research practice, that prioritizes a commitment to equity and social justice in teacher education and development. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to collaborative inquiry and to democratizing and decolonizing knowledge production. The ideal candidate will have an established record of teaching and teaching-related research in areas that include social studies education, teacher research and information literacy, research methods, and global competencies. 

We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices. 

Evidence of excellence in teaching in higher education and in pedagogical inquiry is required, as demonstrated through record of successful undergraduate and graduate teaching, teaching accomplishments, awards and distinctions, strong letters of reference from referees of high standing, and the submitted teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations. The following experience is required: teaching research methods, supporting teacher research, and developing teacher research programming in school and university settings; significant teaching and leadership experience in a research-oriented Canadian teacher education program; and qualification as an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT).  

Responsibilities of the position include teaching courses in the Master of Teaching program and the Curriculum and Pedagogy graduate program, as well as providing leadership and developing innovative programming in the areas of school-university partnerships, site-based teacher education, professional inquiry, and teacher research. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
