Position Summary:

The Department of Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is rapidly growing with approximately 160 graduate students and nearly 500 undergraduate students. There are 25 faculty and 24 academic/university staff.

The Financial Specialist position is a complex role that provides leadership and support in the day to day operations and administration of the Department of Statistics with primary responsibility for purchasing, reimbursement, financial monitoring, payroll and human resources support in conjunction with the current grants manager and ADM. We are seeking a candidate to join in for these efforts with strong professional skills and a proven track record that will assist in supporting the teaching, research, and outreach missions of the Department, the College, and the University.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Previous experience in these areas is preferred:
Two or more years of general financial experience.
Knowledge of or ability to learn State and University purchasing rules, policy and applications including travel policies and procedures.
Knowledge of accounting practices and principles.
Must be able to exercise superior judgement and skill in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet and data management, internet-based calendar, and email. WISER, HRS, JEMS experience preferred.
Ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students of various backgrounds and cultures using well developed interpersonal, communication, and human relations skills.
Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills

Work Schedule:

Standard hours are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility. Schedule will be set upon hire.
