Chairperson of the Department of Psychological Science

The Department of Psychological Science at Ball State University invites tenured applicants for a senior faculty position. The occupant will also serve as Department Chairperson for a 3-year term (renewable) beginning July 2021. The successful candidate will possess administrative experience and demonstrate commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, to effective undergraduate and graduate teaching, to a well-established research agenda, and to academic service.
As Department Chairperson, the candidate will provide leadership to a department with 24 full-time tenured, tenure track, and contract faculty members. Teaching assignments may include introductory courses as well as upper division courses.

Position Function

Provide administrative and faculty leadership for the department and its reporting units, teach courses in general and expertise-specific areas of the discipline as negotiated with the Dean, conduct research and publish in areas of specialization; provide an example of engagement through academic, professional, and public service.

Minimum Education

Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience

Five years of tenure line teaching experience in a psychology program or closely related field; demonstrated record of research and publication in any area of psychology; and have earned tenure.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience

Ten or more years of teaching experience in an undergraduate and/or graduate psychology program; demonstrated administrative experience at the department level; substantial record of research and publication in own area(s) of specialization; demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Preferred Other

Demonstrated record of research and publication in any area of psychology adequate for appointment as an associate or full professor; teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels in a psychology program; commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment; demonstrated record of application for external funding to support research and/or education and training in psychology; and record of service at university, community, and/or professional levels.
