Job Summary

The Coordinator, Eagle View Orientation participates in the development and implementation of programs for the First Year Experience department. Develops and implements new student and family programs including orientation programming for first-year and transfer students and retention focused efforts for first-year students.

Job Description

Develops and implements new student programs, focusing on orientation and retention programming for first-year students.

Works collaboratively with administrators in the development, implementation, documentation, and enforcement of program policies and procedures.

Creates and implements evaluations, assessment, and student retention and engagement strategic goals to assess and report growth and effectiveness of the student programs to supervisor and appropriate stakeholders.

Identifies opportunities for improvement that enables the program to achieve its strategic goals.

Advises and collaborates with campus partners to provide students with resources, support, referral, and advocacy.

Plans and coordinates events, seminars, presentations, and workshops that support student retention and engagement strategic goals.

Oversees first-year peer mentorship program including providing direction for student programming, tracking efforts, and individualized support.

Develops and maintains the department’s publications, website, and social media presence.

Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees. Maintains work schedules, timesheets, and payroll.

Serves on department as well as cross-campus committees for special event planning and programming.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization. Two years of professional full-time experience in student personnel services, student life, student development, or related area. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel Services, Counseling, or a related field. Experience in higher education orientation programming. Experience hiring, training, and supervising college students.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of student development theory, the needs of students in transition, and the core elements of successful orientation programs.

Knowledge of FERPA regulations for handling student records. Knowledge of University programs and policies and Florida State Board of Education policies and rules.

Knowledge of or ability to learn student information systems (Banner and Workday).

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to operate a personal computer with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
