Position Description

The School of Nursing at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (12-month) with the appointment starting in Fall 2020.

School of Nursing

The School of Nursing offers courses which are predominantly online for registered nursing students. It has an enrollment of approximately 400 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Campus presence is required for select classes, program administration, faculty governance and committee responsibilities. The degree programs are: RN-BSN and MSN with role options in Administration, Education, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Clinical Nurse Specialist (in Adult-Gerontology, Neo-Natal or Pediatric Nursing). The school also maintains a BSN Summer Fast-Track program which is offered as a dual-enrollment program for nursing students in Associate Degree Programs. The School is in the process of planning for converting selected MSN program (i.e., Administration, CNS, FNP) to Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs. The Position

Applications are being accepted for a 12-month, tenured Associate Professor or Professor to be the Director of the School of Nursing at California State University, Dominguez Hills.


The Director will:
  • Stay abreast of current and future professional nursing practices and innovations.
  • Lead academic strategic program planning and curriculum development to meet community needs in collaboration with the Dean and faculty.
  • Facilitate change within the SON.
  • Oversee program assessment and improvement, including teaching/learning excellence.
  • Coordinate and ensure that standards for accreditation and State approvals of programs are met.
  • Manage the hiring, performance evaluation, and professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Provide administrative oversight of the retention, tenure, and promotion practices and appointments.
  • Effectively communicate, address student and faculty concerns and resolve conflicts.
  • Mange departmental resources including the allocated budget, requests for travel, facilities, and space.
  • Ensure classes are appropriately scheduled and staffed.
  • Oversee grants and funding.
  • Represent the SON to stakeholders within the and outside the university and with professional and academic groups at local, state, and national levels.
  • Preside over SON faculty meetings and serve on college/university councils and committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in working with students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related field.
  • Earned Master's in nursing.
  • Current active and unencumbered, unrestricted California RN License or eligible for RN licensure.
  • At least 5 years of senior-level administrative experience.
  • Eligibility for CSUDH requirements for the rank of tenured full Professor or Associate Professor.
  • Record of distinguished teaching, scholarship and services.
  • Experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Highly competent in utilizing and understanding appropriate software and information applications.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in curriculum development, especially development of Doctor of Nursing Practice Curricula.
  • Experience in online teaching.
  • Administrative experience in an academic unit with a collective bargaining agreement
  • Teaching and/or administrative experience at a baccalaureate or higher degree level in nursing.
