About the Opportunity:
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks two Academic Advisors to join the team.

The main mission of the Academic Advisor is to ensure a student-centered academic advising environment for students in specified departments in the College. As members of the undergraduate advising team in the College, the academic advisors work closely with each other under the direct supervision of the Director of Academic Advising to do the following:
  • advise undergraduates on a wide range of academic issues as students move from their first year through graduation;
  • maintain accurate advising and student records; and
  • coordinate various student services-related projects aimed at providing academic support and information to students.

In addition, advisors work in partnership with faculty mentors and chairs in their academic departments/programs to develop advising support initiatives that will enhance the quality of students' academic experience and increase retention of students.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Master's degree in an arts and sciences or education-related field, with at least 2 years of previous experience in higher education desirable (direct academic advising experience preferred, including graduate internship experience).

Candidates must have strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. General computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and some experience in working with databases is required. Candidates must have the ability to learn and effectively utilize the College and University-level systems, degree audit and other computer systems in day-to-day advising. Candidates must be able to work well with a variety of personalities, juggle many activities simultaneously, take initiative, work independently, be detail-oriented and follow through with projects.
