The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a dedicated and engaged Technical Director (TD) and Production Manager (PM) for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice beginning August 2021.

 The Johnny Carson School is a NAST accredited institution and member of U/RTA offering the BA, BFA, and MFA in Theatre Arts with substantial endowments for technology/programmatic support/upgrades. The Carson School is part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts that, through its endowment, further supports the theatre faculty and students by funding scholarships, student and faculty travel, and productions for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre.

The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, housed in the Johnny Carson School, is Nebraska’s only Equity Theatre and works in close collaboration with resident faculty and staff, and the Carson School’s production infrastructure. For more information, go to http://nebraskarep.org.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Technical Director (TD), Production Manager (PM) and Instructor is a three-part role that will provide leadership and oversight for Nebraska Repertory Theatre (NRT) and teaching for the MFA and BFA programs. The PM will be responsible for creating a culture that encourages collaboration among the production teams; will run weekly production meetings and work with individual departments, with a commitment to efficient communication practices and transparency. The TD will provide regular and close advising and mentoring to the technical direction students. As an instructor, the TD/PM will teach courses in technical direction and production management including but not limited to Introduction to Technical Theatre, Shop Management, Drafting, Rigging, Advanced Tools and Materials, History of Technical Theatre, as well as develop courses per their experience and specialties that will foster creativity and understanding of technical theatre practices, all while utilizing industry standards and current technology in the field.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· A Master of Fine Arts in Theatre

· Teaching Experience

· Professional TD and/or PM Experience

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· 3 years collegiate teaching in theatre or technical production in both MFA and BFA/BA Programs

· Extensive and diverse professional TD and PM

· Recruiting Experience

· Budgeting and Administrative Experience

· Training or Certifications in:

o Rigging

o CnC Operations and Control

o Automation

· AutoCAD/Vectorworks/other drafting software

· Experience in the mentoring and advising of first-generation students and a diverse student body
