Primary Function:

The mission of the University Career Center is to collaborate with faculty, campus colleagues and employers to create a bridge between college and career by providing career development programming and services to students and alumni. These programs and services are designed to empower students to actively explore, pursue and implement career and education decisions as they seek life-long career satisfaction.

The University Career Center provides career services to all majors. We assist with resumes, cover letters, internships, job search, graduate school search, and interviewing skills. We collaborate with a number of university departments, including Counseling Services, to also provide career counseling and testing.

Primary Purpose:

The Assistant Director of Employer Relations and Internships provides leadership to the department in partnership with the Director and the other Assistant Directors who oversee areas such as career development and pre-professional/graduate school planning. Supervises a team of 3 Internship Coordinators who work with students, academic departments, and external agencies. May serve as a departmental leader in cooperation with other assistant director(s) and point of contact for staff in the absence of the director, and manages new and existing employer relationships to facilitate job and internship opportunities for students. The AD promotes and plans campus interview days, career fairs, networking events, and other activities related to professional development. Manages budgets related to career fairs. The AD works with the Director to establish, support and maintain partnerships with alumni relations, leadership programs, and academic departments. This position leads and supervise liaison relationship between the Colleges as it pertains to internships and employer relations. Oversees and trains staff member who manages the university acadedmic internship paperwork process for a variety of majors, which includes regular communication with faculty.

Job duties performed for the above function:

Researches potential new employers and conduct in-person, phone, email, and other types of communication outreach to potential and existing employer partners to promote on campus recruitment opportunities such as job postings, campus interviews, resume collections, career fairs, and professional development activities to facilitate job and internship opportunities for students. Maintain and develop existing employer partnerships to enhance in-person and virtual campus recruitment opportunities. Participate in networking and professional organizations for the purpose of promoting GC students to new employment opportunities.

Plans and implements campus interview days, networking events, and career fairs, to include promoting events to potential employers.

Advice and coach students one-on-one and in group settings to include but not limited to resume reviews, mock interviews, class presentations, job search strategies, professional career transition topics.

Supervise, train, guide, and evaluate staff of 3 full-time Internship Coordinators and a student assistant who assists with employer relations. Oversee the university’s academic internship paperwork process and supervise the Internship Coordinator who manages the daily process. Provides leadership in the form of support, mentoring, and training to the staff in partnership with the director and other assistant directors. Assist the director with administrative duties such as strategic planning, assessment, budget and representing the department as needed.

Lead and supervise liaison relationships with the Colleges in collaboration with Internship Coordinators. Serve as primary liaison with the College of Business and Alumni Relations. Communicate with faculty internship coordinators through as part of the internship paperwork process.

Develop, manage, coordinate, and implement initiatives to enhance the department. Serve as a member of the Career Center Leadership Team and work with the director and other assistant directors to develop relationships with academic departments and employers as well as to implement the department’s strategic initiative for a campus wide career services component.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Business or related field; AND at least three years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
