Job Description:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Saint Joseph invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer and Data Science beginning in August 2021.  This is an exciting time to join the department as we have recently introduced a new undergraduate major in Computer and Data Science and are seeking a dynamic, creative colleague who will play an active role in shaping the new program and facilitating its growth. Review of applications will begin on December 7, 2020, and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities include teaching a wide range of undergraduate computer science courses, from introductory programming to upper-level major courses. Although all areas of specialization will be considered, we are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses in subjects such as software development, mobile application development, web programming, and cloud computing. Ability to teach data science courses is also an asset. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and student engagement, an interest in curriculum development, and broad potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

 

Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate in computer science (or a related field), applicants who are ABD will be considered.
  • Evidence of strong commitment to undergraduate education and potential for excellence in teaching
  • Competency and interest  in teaching a broad range of undergraduate computer science courses and developing new courses in key areas of growth
  • Evidence of potential to maintain an active scholarship agenda
  • Commitment to continued professional development in the fast-changing field  
  • Expertise and/or interest in data science preferred
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level preferred
  • Industry experience and/or a broad understanding of industry expectations, trends, and applications preferred
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
