Assistant Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is delighted to announce a search for an outstanding tenure-track hire with a start date of Fall 2021.

The department is especially interested in the area of service systems research contributing to advances in the management and operation of service enterprises (e.g. labor intense service industries such as healthcare, transportation, security operations, shared economy, hospitality and entertainment, supply chain engineering, financial services, etc.) with a strong methodological background in Industrial Engineering/Operations Research including optimization, simulation, stochastic systems, and data science.

Candidates are expected to:
  • develop an internationally recognized and externally funded service systems research program
  • adopt innovative educational practices as they develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses
  • advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • participate in local and external service activities


The search will be at the Assistant Professor level.

Exceptional candidates will be considered for the endowed “Charles and Enid Schneider Early Career Professorship in Service Enterprise Engineering” to provide the holder with financial support and encouragement during the critical first years of their academic career.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a closely related field and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Ph.D. degree must be completed by the expected start date.
