The School of Human Sciences at SIU Carbondale seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Therapeutic Recreation/Exercise Science. This is a 9-month, continuing, tenure-track faculty appointment. Contingent on demand for teaching assignments, an additional summer session appointment is possible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Teach
therapeutic recreation courses at the undergraduate and graduate
levels. Areas might include assessment and evaluation,
biomechanics, motor behavior, and basic exercise science. The
teaching assignment will be based on the area of expertise of the
chosen candidate.
Advise
graduate students and serve on thesis/research project
committees.
Initiate and
implement a focused research agenda leading to peer-reviewed
publications & presentations.
Secure
external funding for research and training projects.
Participate in
professional associations and activities and university service
appropriate to academic rank.
Ph.D. in Recreation Therapy/Exercise Science (or related field). Applicants who have completed all but the dissertation and who expect to complete all requirements for the doctorate prior to August 15, 2021, will be considered. If all degree requirements are not completed by that date, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (https://policies.siu.edu/personnel-policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.php).
Preferred Qualifications:-
Current
Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
(CTRS).
Teaching
capability in Therapeutic Recreation OR Motor
Behavior/Biomechanics.
Professional
preparation, experience, and research interests in therapeutic
recreation or motor behavior.
Experience in
serving on graduate thesis/research project committees.
