The Mary and John Gray Library at Lamar University, Beaumont, TX, is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to serve as University Archivist. The successful candidate will have the opportunity of guiding the unit to the next stage of its development, including the planning for a new, centralized Archives/Special Collections facility within the library and implementation of a new institutional repository. This is a 12 month, non-tenure track faculty position.

Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the University Archivist, who also serves as University Records Manager, will be responsible for managing and developing an effective records management operation for the university and will provide leadership for the development and ongoing operation of the University Archives and Special Collections. Included in Special Collections are a number of important collections documenting the history and heritage of the university and the region, including a major collection documenting the creation of the Big Thicket National Preserve, a highly biodiverse area that has been described as “America’s Ark.”

The University Archives and Special Collections are well supported with 3 full-time employees reporting to the Archivist and significant ongoing endowment funding. With planning for a major renovation of the library comes the opportunity to design a new facility that will fully reflect the value and importance of our collections.

With an enrollment of over 17,000 students, Lamar University is one of Texas’ fastest growing universities. The university has been nationally recognized for the quality of its core curriculum and the diversity of its student body. Beaumont is a Texas Gulf Coast city located between Houston and New Orleans. With an interesting blend of cultures, it offers much to do with a wide variety of restaurants, museums, and arts venues. Winters are mild and the attractions of Houston are close by.
