ResponsibilitiesMercer University invites applications for a Faculty of Computer Science, a nine month, renewable tenure-track position in the College of Professional Advancement, beginning August 1, 2021.
The position is based at Mercer's Graduate and Professional Atlanta campus with teaching responsibilities at other Mercer locations and online. The individual selected for the position will teach courses and advise adult learners in support of undergraduate and graduate curriculum in software application development and human-computer interaction, information technology and informatics.
The individual selected for this position will have opportunities to build and shape academic programs to meet emerging technology needs and help students learn to adapt to rapidly changing environments in private and public sectors, while working in one of the fastest-growing technology economies in the U.S. The successful candidate will work within a collegial and active interdisciplinary department with faculty comprised of dedicated teachers and motivated researchers.
Responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of six or seven courses each academic year in traditional and non-traditional formats in eight-week sessions; advising students; mentoring students on research projects; actively serving department and college needs and on committees; developing research; and contributing to the University's mission.
QualificationsA doctoral degree in computer science or closely related field from an accredited college/university is required. Rank will be determined based on the credentials of the selected candidate. Candidates must have evidence of exemplary teaching or potential for exemplary teaching in face-to-face and web-enhanced formats; evidence of research experience, scholarly writing, and potential for establishing a successful record of scholarly activity.
Professional experience in a computer science or software development position in corporate, government, or nonprofit organizations and credentials and/or experience in full stack application development, software engineering, database, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning are desirable. Professional accomplishments that demonstrate creativity and energy, self-direction, and the ability to work with a highly motivated and diverse team are important attributes of the successful candidate.
Applicants with research-based knowledge and/or work experience in one or more of the following areas will be given preference: database, programming, application development, artificial intelligence, machine learning. A skillset in data science, health informatics, telehealth, or cyber security, data security, network security is of interest to the Department. Applicants with experience or an interest in teaching and advising non-traditional students will be given preference.
