Position Summary:

Works directly with principal investigator and research staff to budget, monitor expenditures, and reconcile financial data for sponsored programs. May directly process and/or approve accounting transactions such as cost transfers, procurement, sub award management, and financial processing related to sponsored project management. May review and approve transactions on behalf of an intermediate unit or center.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BA/BS strongly preferred, preferably in Business administration, finance, accounting or health-related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- At least 1-2 years relevant experience is required, as well as demonstrated knowledge and experience with principles and practices of governmental accounting, including federal grants clinical research and GAAP.
- Experience administering an electronic project and fiscal management system required.
- Experience in working with complex automated accounting systems and processes preferred.
- Experience providing technical assistance to diverse audiences with a range of accounting
backgrounds preferred.
- Experience in a medical or clinical research setting is strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred.

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience.

The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin, originally obtaining NCI designation in 1973. UWCCC is deeply committed to beating cancer through research, prevention, and treatment. Our purpose is to encourage greater and wider participation in cancer research and care at the University and in the State of Wisconsin, with an ultimate goal of dramatically reducing the burden of cancer on our patients and communities.

The UWCCC clinical research program is organized into Disease Oriented Teams (DOTs), which consist of faculty and clinically-focused research staff. Several non-clinical research functions, such as regulatory and finance, are performed by centralized teams that work across DOTs. The Non-Industry Accountant position will sit within the Grants and Fiscal office and reports to the UWCCC Assistant Director of Finance.
