Who We Are

The Learning Assistant Alliance mission is to connect institutions to support the implementation and assessment of the Learning Assistant (LA) model with goals of improving educational experiences and access across the disciplines. The LA model started at CU Boulder in 2001 and has been adopted by hundreds of other institutions across the United States and internationally. LAs are undergraduate students who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions and a pedagogy course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active engagement. The International LA Alliance currently has 2166 faculty/staff accounts from 474 institutions and these numbers are growing every day. As the number and diversity of community members continue to increase, there is an associated need for member support in a diversity of ways. The Community Resources Manager will work with the LAA Leadership Council as well as with the diversity of individuals, colleges, and schools to ensure that needs are addressed, with the ultimate goal of improving educational experiences at the post-secondary level.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Communications/Process and Resource Development
  • Collaborate close with the LAA Leadership Council and LAA Directors and development staff to develop and implement policies, processes, and structures to support the community.
  • Communicate and work with technology team to specify, design, and implement the development of web-based solutions for community development, communication, and resource sharing and manage LAA membership.
  • Establish communication with LAA institutions. Work to identify Program Coordinators at each site and collaborate with them.
  • Build relationships with LAA members.

Brand/Product Consistency and Quality Control
  • Institute scheduled updates to LAA mission statements, individual and institution directories, and other LAA community assets.
  • Coordinate and apply consistent branding, use up-to-date diagrams and images to LAA workshop materials, and communicate updates with L-Agents and other community members.

Community Development
  • Develop and support special interest groups within LAA community (i.e. pedagogy course instructors, disciplinary-based LA faculty, faculty development, and research teams). Provide initial structures for group formation, communication, activity, with gradual release of group leadership for sustainability

Events and Revenue
  • Provide the first line of support for annual Regional LA Workshops and International LA Conference. Broker the relationship between workshop leads and Conference Services.
  • Work with the Office of Contracts and Grants to establish protocols and processes associated with revenue.


Grant Writing and Grant Management
  • Writing grants to develop and study communities with the LAA.
  • Work with colleagues from around the nation to craft grant components relevant to the LAA and its products.

Teaching and/or Research could be a part of all aspects of this position, depending upon the interests of qualified candidates, including teaching in the form of webinars, workshops, and other events.

What You Should Know

  • This is a limited-term position ending December 31, 2021, with the possibility of an extension pending the availability of funding.
  • Willingness to travel (when it is safe to do so).


What We Can Offer

Salary range is $55,000 - $75,000.

What We Require

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Previous Management experience.


What You Will Need

  • Knowledge and abilities working with Zoom, cloud documents, websites, and other communication tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, writing, editing, organization, and proofreading skills.
  • Passion for education reform.
  • Affinity for long-range planning and vision casting.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s and doctorate degrees are encouraged to apply if they are interested in higher education reform as a career.
  • Experience with LA programs—working with LAs and Faculty.
  • Knowledge of content management systems such as Drupal or WebPress.
  • Experience with community organization
  • Experience working with faculty/instructors and in the higher education environment.
  • Experience working in a business environment.
  • Experience working with teams on collaborative, fast-paced projects.
