Assistant Professor - Technology
The Department of Aviation and Technology at San José State University seeks qualified candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Technology Program in the area of Computer Network System Management.
The Aviation and Technology Department is the oldest department in the College of Engineering. The Department has an enrollment of over 700 in its programs and enjoys having a strong relationship with local industry through continuous support of its Industry Advisory Boards. The Department has had a long-standing internship program as part of its curriculum to allow students to gain industry experience while industry evaluates students for long-term potential employment.
This Department offers both BS and MS Degrees in Industrial Technology. The BS degrees are offered in the following concentrations: a) Computer Network System Management, b) Manufacturing Systems. Computer Network System Management (CNSM) was introduced recently due to demand by industry in recruiting graduates with knowledge, skills, and experience in Computer Network Systems.
The CNSM concentration utilizes the most advance computer network equipment laboratory sponsored by industry, mainly Cisco. Students of CNSM enjoy apprenticeship opportunities at Cisco and internships at Juniper Network, Palo Alto Network, NASA Ames Research Center, Lockheed-Martin and Stanford University.
The new faculty member to be recruited in the CNSM concentration will have the opportunity to teach and develop laboratories in support of curriculum enhancement in meeting industry's needs. The CNSM's classes are taken by students from other programs, such as Business and Political Science, who take courses such as Cybersecurity Management, and Network Security and Prevention Management. CNSM is the first program on campus to offer courses in IoT, Industrial IoT, and Blockchain Technology.

A Doctoral degree in related field is required by the position start date. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: Computer Network Systems, Routers and Switches, Wireless and Telecommunications, Cyber and Network Security, Cloud Computing, Mobile Applications, and Internet of Things (IoT) Integration. The successful candidate must demonstrate the potential for teaching, scholarly excellence, service, and working with industry. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Industry experience, prior teaching, ability to develop laboratory for hands-on education, and curriculum development in expanding our program are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committee and other service assignments.
The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
