The Department of Interior Design, in the College of Design, Construction and Planning, at the University of Florida is looking for a dynamic faculty member with a doctorate or master's degree in interior design, architecture or related field. The department invites applications from qualified individuals for appointment to a 9-month, tenure-track position beginning August 2021. The appointment will be at the assistant professor level. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and responsibilities. Evidence of strong potential for creative or scholarly research, teaching and/or professional practice required. Position is open to a broad range of specializations with an emphasis on studio learning through team-teaching and collaboration. NCIDQ certification or willingness to sit for the exam preferred. Candidates are expected to teach four courses per year (at least one being a team-taught studio), develop and maintain a significant research or creative scholarship program, and engage in professional outreach and university service.

The Department of Interior Design is housed within the College of Design, Construction & Planning with allied programs of Architecture, Construction Management, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, Sustainability in the Built Environment, and Urban & Regional Planning.

Our department consists of a vibrant faculty with diverse scholarly specializations that advance human-centered design. Our well recognized contributions in academia, practice and industry stems from our commitment to an integrated approach that applies both creative and evidence-based inquiry to our teaching, scholarship, and outreach missions. Our graduates from the bachelor’s to doctoral level, are well positioned to become leaders in the field. The department culture is further enriched through strong national and international partnerships leveraged into applied and sponsored studio projects. The Department of Interior Design currently includes 9 full-time faculty, and approximately 99 undergraduate and 10 graduate students. It offers a professional undergraduate and master's degree and participates in a college-wide doctoral program. Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in interior design, architecture or related field
  • Evidence of strong potential for creative or scholarly research, teaching and/or professional practice


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in research, studio teaching, and/or professional practice is desirable.
  • NCIDQ certification or willingness to sit for the exam preferred.
