Position Function

Under the dual leadership of the VP for Development and Director of Athletics, the Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Athletics Development will contribute to the University Foundation and Athletics Department by managing a principal and major gift portfolio to advance the university’s fundraising initiatives in the areas of capital projects, endowments and planned gifts.

The Associate Athletic Director and Director of Athletics plans and implements ongoing strategy for engagement and acquisition, leading to contributions from alumni, friends of the university, letter winners, season ticket holders, along with university faculty and staff.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience

At least five years of experience in development, athletics, or related area.

Minimum Other

Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy; ability to work as part of an organization without direct daily supervision; outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary in order to articulate departmental and institutional viewpoints, goals, and needs.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience

Five or more years of experience in major gifts fundraising within intercollegiate

Preferred Other

Strong organizational management and interpersonal skills, together with self-
motivation and ability to motivate others, including staff, faculty, and volunteers; ability to work as a team member within a complex institution. Experience with Blackbaud CRM .

Pre-Employment Screening

Requires successful completion of a Drivers License check, Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Duties & Responsibilities



Job Duty

Acts as a liaison between the University Foundation and Athletics Department to drive and execute fundraising efforts for principal and major gift support.



Job Duty

Identify, cultivate, and successfully solicit individuals for principal and major gifts supporting athletics in conjunction with other Development staff.



Job Duty

Coordinates athletics fundraising priorities, strategies, and plans for prospects with the Director of Athletics, Deputy Director of Athletics, and Development staff and other campus units.



Job Duty

Manages a portfolio of 100 (+/-15) with a minimum giving capacity of $20,000 or more to assist in meeting Foundation and Athletics fundraising goals.



Job Duty

Support the comprehensive planning and execution of the university capital fundraising campaign for the Foundation and Athletics Department.



Job Duty

Leverages opportunities such as key BSU, athletics, and Cardinal Varsity Club events to maximize/optimize relationship building and moving prospects/donors through the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle.
