Scope of Job:
The Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering (MAIE) Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for Tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to start Fall 2021 semester. The MAIE department offers an ABET-accredited Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management, a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering at the Edinburg campus, and Bachelor of Science degree in engineering technology in the process of accreditation at the Brownsville campus. Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for Tenure-track Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, service, and research capabilities of the Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering (MAIE) Department and the success of students the department serves. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or in a closely related field from an ABET-accredited university, at least conferred before the start date. Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability, or a well-designed plan to develop and maintain a funded research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects. The successful candidates will demonstrate having the appropriate level professional achievements and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines and the ability to involve students at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualification:
The department seeks new faculty members who can teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate level in the areas of work science, lean manufacturing, manufacturing processes and design. Preference will be given to candidates whose research complements the department’s strength in advanced machining, additive manufacturing, bio-manufacturing, data science, supply chain management, and visualization.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly the University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly the University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
