Scope of Job:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer position in Civil Engineering. We are seeking an applicant to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in civil engineering. The position is a three-year appointment, renewable based on favorable annual evaluations.

UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV's strategic plan (http://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.


Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a minimum of a master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university. Candidates with a PhD from an accredited university will be considered for a senior lecturer position. Candidates with significant industrial experience and/or a PE license and more than 10 years practical experience may also be considered for either an Assistant Professor of Practice or a Senior Lecturer title All candidates must have a strong background in construction Engineering and/or construction management background and preference will be given to those with 5 or more years of experience in the construction field.


Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching and will be expected to advise students and develop or supervise teaching laboratories as well as teach traditional, hybrid or online courses in addition to providing service to the Department, College and University as required. Candidates with training and demonstrated expertise in any of the civil engineering related areas will be considered for the position.


Preferred Qualification:
PhD is preferred. Teaching experience, particularly in civil engineering or a closely-related discipline, and professional licensure is desirable, as well as ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. Industry or teaching experience is preferred. Prefer broad background with ability to teach across most of undergrad curriculum. Also experience in online teaching or online class development is a plus.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
